Career coach & consultant · Ireland

Figure out what's next in your career — and how to get there.

I work one-to-one with people at a crossroads: stuck in the wrong role, weighing a move, recovering from redundancy, or quietly wondering "is this it?" In a few honest conversations, we'll map where you are, where you want to be, and the steps in between.

Trusted by SMEs, multinationals, universities and unions across Ireland

How I help

Four ways to work together

Depending on whether you're an individual, a people leader, or a representative body — the work shapes around what you actually need.

01

One-to-one coaching

For professionals who want clarity on what comes next.

A focused series of conversations to step back, look honestly at where you are, and build a roadmap to where you want to go. Useful at any stage — early career, mid-career pivots, leadership transitions, or returning to work.

Best for: individuals, executives, people in transition.

02

Organisational career strategy

For HR teams who want a clear answer to "where can I go from here?"

I work with people teams to design career frameworks, internal mobility pathways and development conversations that actually land — so good people can see a future inside the organisation instead of looking outside it.

Best for: SMEs and multinationals investing in retention, internal mobility and succession.

03

Redundancy & group support

For organisations and unions navigating change with care.

When roles are ending, restructuring, or stagnating, people need more than a payslip and a press release. I run group workshops and individual sessions that give people practical footing — CVs, interview prep, sector mapping, and the confidence to take the next step.

Best for: HR teams managing restructures, unions supporting members, outplacement programmes.

04

Keynote speaking

For conferences, away days, and member events.

Talks on careers, work, and what people really want from their working lives — drawn from years inside university careers services, boardrooms, and union halls. Plain-spoken, evidence-based, and genuinely useful.

Topics: the future of careers in Ireland, navigating mid-career, building career conversations into HR, supporting members through change.

About John

Honest conversations. Clear plans. Genuinely useful work.

I spent years as a careers coach at university level, sitting across from students and graduates trying to make sense of the working world. These days, my desk is wider — I work with individuals weighing big decisions, HR teams trying to build something better for their people, and unions advocating for members through change.

The thread running through all of it: most people don't need a personality test or a polished framework. They need someone honest to think out loud with, and a clear plan they can actually act on.

FAQ

Common questions

Who do you usually work with?

Three groups, mostly. Individuals at a career crossroads — early career, mid-career, or senior. HR and people leaders inside SMEs and multinationals. And unions or representative bodies supporting members through change.

Do I need to know what I want before we start?

No. Most people come to me precisely because they don't. The first job is to get honest about where you are; the plan comes after that.

How does one-to-one coaching work?

We start with a discovery call to make sure it's a good fit. From there, most clients work with me over a series of sessions — usually four to six — spaced over a few weeks. Sessions can be in person or online.

Can you work with our HR team on a longer engagement?

Yes. I work with HR teams on retained and project-based engagements — career frameworks, internal mobility, manager training, and restructuring support. Scope depends on what you're trying to do.

Do you travel for talks and group sessions?

Yes — across Ireland and further afield for keynotes and group work. Online sessions are available where in-person isn't practical.

What does it cost?

It depends on the engagement. Individual coaching is priced per package; organisational and union work is scoped to the brief. We'll talk pricing on the discovery call once we know what you actually need.
